This 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air has the right appearance and performance-built big block to look like a true quarter mile racer, but it was really built to be the coolest cruise-in machine. So you get a powerful and comfortable custom classic for a very affordable price.
From the moment you lay eyes on this one you can tell it's an interesting custom build. But before we dive into the investments that make it quite original, let's remember why this is such a great classic to begin with. The top-of-the-line Bel Air model added plenty more bright trim, and the place you first notice it on this coupe is on the roof. The full window surrounds makes for a terrific separating line for the two-tone Tangerine Orange and Cream paint scheme. Speaking of the paint, this is a very cool execution that blends older Art Deco style with modern shine. Much of the chrome pieces have been painted metallic silver so that the luster of the car is uniform over the whole body. Even the side trim is pained on with the Bel Air name subtly added in like ghost flames. But what people are really going to notice are the serious performance upgrades. Description
It starts with the large cowl hood with the power bulge that tells everyone there's a lot of motor underneath. But just in case they didn't pick up on that hint, the Cragar racing wheels, huge rear tires, and wheelie bar under the bumper are all sure signs of a very speedy Chevy.
Inside the full roll cage and smaller rear seat for the tubbed rear end might tell you this is a pure drag racing machine. But one look at the front buckets, and you understand this is a very different kind of classic coupe. The interior follows the car's original tan and beige theme, but you can see these front seats are far more comfortable that anything that came out of the '50s. The Blaupunkt AM/FM/CD stereo and power windows let you know it offers more luxury than a racer. This is more of a pro street machine, and we know it's never even been to the racetrack. But as a true to this competition-inspired class, the driver gets some great performance upgrades. It starts with the Grant three-spoke steering sports wheel for your left hand, and the B&M Pro Stick shifter to rest your right one. In front of you is a full set of AutoMeter gauges, and the very important large tach with shift light is mounted centrally on the exterior color-matched dash.
Under the hood is a beastly big block. This 402 cubic-inch V8 is built with go-fast goodies that include dual Holley four-barrel carburetors, Edelbrock Street Tunnel Ram intake, and long tube headers that feed the screaming side exhaust. This big power motor is backed up by reliable components such as an MSD ignition, aluminum radiator, and electric fan. The TH350 three-speed transmission is stout enough for you to shift if you so desire. This feeds the tough Ford 9-inch rear end that's running 3.50 gears for good all-around performance. Up front the suspension has been upgraded to an independent unit borrowed from a '76 Monte Carlo. In the rear, it's a strong four-link coilover setup that makes sure those massive Mickey Thompson tires are always hooking up with the pavement. Add in power steering and front disc brakes, and you've got a terrific pro street package.
Complete with build receipts, this custom Bel Air offers cool looks and big power for little money. It's the kind of total package that appeals to every enthusiast, so you better hurry if you want to take this one home. Call today!!!
