Some people wanted to play Smokey and the Bandit when buying a black Pontiac in the late 1970s. We could continue to make movie references about a black Trans Am with gold trim, but the simple fact is that these were so cool looking that they were destined to be legendary even without Hollywood. Never designed to be a subtle machine, the deep Starlight Black is the perfect outlaw color, especially with the professional respray of this car's factory-correct color. It gives the dark paint the kind of luster that makes it look like a black mirror. The chin spoiler and Endura front bumper doesn't show any evidence of run-ins with steep driveways or parking curbs, allowing this T/A to hold its head high at car shows. But what really makes this one really grab attention is all the gold trim that is on everything from over the flared fenders, to under the rear spoiler, to the iconic snowflake wheels. And because everyone expects the legendary "screaming chicken" to be the bold centerpiece, a new one was recently applied.

Inside is a selection of the perfect features. The black leather buckets are in excellent condition. This is particularly nice, because we know you've noticed the T-tops. They're perfect for everything from displaying your T/A at car shows to just letting everyone else notice the grin on your face when driving through town. It's always a pleasure to see that pervious caretakers understood the importance of enjoying this feature without going to the excess that would have caused sun damage. The original AM/FM stereo is still in place for period-correct fun, and there are provisions for factory air conditioning. But your favorite part will be the option that's missing, the popular automatic transmission option. That's right...even the Bandit didn't get the kind of powerband control that you have with the four-speed manual.

The numbers-matching 400 cubic-inch V8 has an authentic appearance right down to the factory hood shaker that everybody remembers so well. The block is still covered in factory-correct Pontiac Blue paint, and it looks like this powerplant has been treated to good regular maintenance, instead of many that were overly modified. This motor makes such great muscle car sounds, and thanks to the four-speed, it moves the coupe with authority. The Trans Am has a reputation for not only being quick, but also it could handle the corners like a movie star. It was specifically chosen to be Bandit's "Trigger" because it was one of the best all-around sportscars of its day, and the optional four-wheel disc brakes only enhances this reputation. Plus, the power steering and grip of BF Goodrich T/A radials makes this a great anytime driver.

Barely averaging 1,000 miles per year, you can really tell this Firebird Trans Am has been cherished throughout its life. The current Florida title shows actual mileage.
