MOST POPULAR YEAR CHEVELLE, BIG BLOCK 454, CONSOLE W/ SHIFTER, SS STRIPES

There aren't many muscle cars more highly sought than the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, and this gorgeous Cortez Silver Chevelle is a fantastic cruiser with no pretentions about being a trailer queen investment-mobile. Instead, it's built for combat with a 454CI big block and a minimum of frills.

Clean and straight is how you want your Chevelle, and this one seems to have done something right and lived a good life. The shape is one of the most classic of all the muscle car era machines, with flares and curves that look like the body was tightly stretched over the mechanicals. The sheetmetal on this one is quite straight and looks awesome under the lights with that icy Cortez Silver, which replaces the kind of noncommittal Green Mist it wore originally. Details like the cowl induction hood, black SS stripes, and proper badging help it stand out at the local cruise night, and you can take it home with confidence knowing that it has lived in the south all its life. The blacked-out SS grille remains in excellent condition, along with bright chrome bumpers and accessories like the hood pins and fully functional cowl induction hood. Despite the subdued color, this car is anything but subtle.

Black buckets are the right choice in a Chevelle of this caliber, and given the wide variety of choices and options in 1970, the nicely restored high-back units in this car are as comfortable as they look. There's new foam underneath so they're nice and firm, and correct SS door panels were installed at the same time. There's a console with horseshoe shifter planted between the seats and a classic 3-spoke steering wheel is a big improvement over the skinny original piece. The factory gauges cover just the basics, and even in the SS a tach was optional, so the requisite auxiliary gauges under the dash monitor oil pressure, temperature, and voltage. That's the original AM radio in the dash, which could probably do with an upgrade one of these days, although the sound of the big block is probably more than you'll need for entertainment purposes. Details like the carpet, headliner, and even the back seat look brand new, and the trunk is clean and bare with nothing to hide.

Matching the badges on the fenders, there's a potent 454 cubic inch V8 stashed under that cowl-induction hood, and it delivers the kind of eyeball-bouncing acceleration for which Chevelles have always been famous. Wearing a chrome air cleaner and 365 horsepower decal, it's been ehnahced with a Weiand intake manifold and Holley carburetor, so it may even make a few extra ponies. Chrome valve covers match the air cleaner and while it isn't particularly showy under the hood, it's functional and ready to rock at a moment's notice. Long-tube headers feed a throaty dual exhaust system with 40-series Flowmaster mufflers that dump under the rear bumper using correct oval tips. A tough TH400 3-speed automatic spins a 10-bolt rear end and there's a fresh gas tank out back to feed the beast. Factory SS wheels are so good looking you'll forget aftermarket hoops and they wear 225/60/15 BFGoodrich radials for a great muscle car look.

Not every Chevelle has to be a bright red LS6 clone, and this one has a ton of appeal and plenty of horsepower. Call today!
