Description

The guy who conceived the Dodge Ram SRT-10 pickup was either insane or a genius. Stuffing a V10 Viper motor in a full-sized pickup is the best kind of crazy and building a crew cab version was pure genius. If you need the ability to haul just about anything as well as dust off the occasional Mustang, then this 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 is for you.

The SRT-10 is easy enough to spot thanks to its vented hood, deep chin spoiler, and built-in hard tonneau cover with wing, and if you're smart, you'll leave it alone. Dressed in black, it's pure sinister and even with 85,000 miles on the clock, this one still looks fresh. Obviously this was never a work truck or even a daily driver, and someone took exceptional care of it over the past decade. Black is always troublesome to keep looking its best, but the shine is deep and there's just no evidence that it has ever been wrecked or injured. The deep chin spoiler might be vulnerable, but it, too, remains in excellent shape. The hard-shell tonneau cover turns the pickup bed into a giant weather-proof trunk and there's a rubber mat inside so you can actually use this truck as, you know, a truck. There are a few chrome details, most notably the SRT-10 emblems and polished exhaust tips, but everything else is covered in deep, glossy black.

This isn't your average pickup truck inside, either, as it's been outfitted with body-hugging bucket seats that are entirely appropriate for a truck that can perform like this one. There's a center console big enough to store a laptop computer and a full array of white-faced gauges in front of the driver. A fat leather-wrapped steering wheel also houses the cruise control buttons and the center stack is for the A/C and AM/FM/CD stereo system. And while the early SRT-10s were strictly two-seaters, this one is a crew cab, which means a full-sized rear bench that's upholstered to match and big enough for three full-sized adults, making this a very usable super truck. As Dodge's top-of-the-line machine, it obviously comes loaded with just about every option available, from A/C to power windows and locks to a rear defroster.

But the real reason anyone is looking at this truck is under the hood, where you'll find a Viper-spec 8.3 liter V10 making a nice, round 500 horsepower. Crazy? Maybe. But once you crack the throttle, you'll be hooked. The big V10 looks awesome in the Ram's engine bay with its red valve covers and the dual plenum intake and it should probably not be a surprise that it's a tight fit. All the usual Viper upgrades apply here but you'll find this Ram is completely stock, which speaks highly of the V10's longevity and durability, not to mention its performance, which is shocking to the uninitiated. You can't get an automatic transmission in the Viper, but the Ram gets a bulletproof 4-speed automatic overdrive unit that's responsive to your right foot yet just loafs along on the highway. The SRT-10 also got a heavily upgraded suspension that's far more agile than you'd expect from a 6000 pound pickup and still preserves the bed's ability to carry a load. There are also gigantic disc brakes behind those handsome 22-inch alloys, which are shod with wide-by-huge Pirelli Scorpion P-Zero performance radials, the only tires in the world capable of supporting the Ram's performance capabilities.
