Description

1ST GEN DROPTOP, TUXEDO BLACK ON RED, FRAME-OFF RESTO, 327 V8, AUTO, 10-BOLT!!

This 1967 Camaro convertible combines an awesome color scheme (black over red never goes out of style) and a bare-bones appeal that makes it a strong contender for the ultimate summer cruiser. V8 power and timeless good looks are part of the package, too, so we'll throw them in for free.

Ironically, the cowl tag says this one was originally Ermine White, but when it was restored in 2009, every square inch of visible sheetmetal was given a lovely deep coat of Tuxedo Black. Of course, this car looks like someone spent a lot of time on it, with good gaps and panel alignment and evidence that the entire car was thoroughly block sanded before being sent to the paint booth. It shows a few signs of use, but who can resist the allure of a Camaro convertible on a sunny day, especially one that turns heads like this? It's also nice to see it hasn't been dressed up as a fake SS, although the blacked-out grille does give it a somewhat sinister look that definitely works well. Chrome bumpers, bright fender trim, and polished stainless on the windshield surround all add some glitter to this otherwise serious F-body.

The code 741-Z red bucket seat interior matches the fender tag and looks fantastic against the black paint. To me, this is the most desirable color combination there is, and with the way this one looks, can you blame me for loving it? New seat covers with black piping look great, along with fresh door panels and new black carpets that tie it together quite nicely. The black console is highlighted with a few red accents, and the red dash pad over the black instrument panel works well. Those appear to be the original gauges which still have clear faces and bright markings, and auxiliary gauges were installed just above the center console in the usual location. A newer AM/FM stereo radio was slipped into the dash along with an updated Lokar shifter that looks period-correct. A black convertible top with crystal clear rear window looks like its never seen rain and the trunk is finished with a correct reproduction mat set.

Pop the hood and you'll find one fresh-looking 327 cubic inch V8. Bathed in factory-looking Chevy Orange paint and sporting only an open-element air cleaner as an upgrade, it looks better than new and runs just as well. The no-frills approach to this Camaro is appealing with minimal stuff that can break or leak, and once you get behind the wheel, you'll realize that you don't miss the power steering and brakes anyway. Upgrades include basic stuff like an Edelbrock carb, headers, dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers, and an electric fan to help keep it cool. The transmission is a TH350 3-speed automatic spinning the original 10-bolt rear, and the chassis is impressively clean. Classic Rally wheels with 215/75/15 blackwall radials fill the wheel wells with an aggressive look.

With restoration photos and a 4-speed manual transmission in the trunk (just in case), this is a gorgeous, affordable V8 Camaro convertible. What are you waiting for, call today!
