1970 Chevrolet C10

Description

It's probably safe to think of this pretty 1970 Chevrolet C10 pickup as a Camaro with a really big trunk. LS1 power, 4-wheel disc brakes, and all the modern conveniences have erased its status as "just an old pickup" and elevated it to something that's a lot more fun to drive. The fact that it also looks great certainly doesn't hurt, either!

It's easy to imagine this Medium Gold Chevy pickup (that's its original color, by the way) cruising down to the local feed store back in 1970, but today it's an entirely different story. This one puts in appearances at car shows and cruises the streets with the swagger of an apex predator, because it has the hardware to beat a lot of high-quality machinery. It's also beautifully restored, with great paint and bodywork that suggests either someone spent a ton of time and money on it or it never really did any hard labor in the first place, or maybe even a little of both. Whatever the case, it's seriously nice, with an impressive gloss on the paint that's a result of having been built to show. It has some miles on it today, so it's not quite as perfect as it was when it was first finished, but there's no doubt that the workmanship was first rate and that it's had expert care since then. The chrome and trim are still in place where the factory put them, and everything shiny has been buffed and polished up right. If not for the wheels, you'd hardly know that this wasn't a fully restored stocker, which is just the way we like it.

The interior's a long way from stock, starting with a pair of bucket seats that look like they could have come from a piece of '60s muscle. There's a custom console between them, also wrapped in handsome parchment vinyl, and the door panels are reproduction pieces that match quite nicely. As with the body, there are some VERY minor signs of use, but for the most part this interior is expertly done and a wonderful combination of pickup truck and muscle. The gauges are attractive Auto Meter dials with a vintage look, and all the comfort items you'd want are included, from the tilt wheel to the A/C system to an AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo with speakers integrated into the kick panels. If you can't get comfortable here, you're doing it wrong.

The engine is a 2002 Corvette LS1 V8 topped by bright red coil covers from a Z06. Looking like the factory built it, the engine bay is orderly with great service access and OEM levels of fit and finish; the only real giveaway is the custom air intake and conical K&N filter. There's a big radiator up front to keep it cool and R134a refrigerant inside the A/C system, so it'll be easy to maintain in the future. It's backed by a 4L65E 5-speed automatic transmission from a 2007 Envoy that was recently rebuilt and feeds what appears to be the original 12-bolt rear end, which has 3.73 gears and a Posi inside. The chassis is beautifully detailed like a stocker would be, but offers upgrades like 4-wheel disc brakes, a great-sounding dual exhaust system, and fat sway bars, so it really does handle like a muscle car. Those wheels are 20s up front and 22s in back carrying 275/40/20s and 285/45/22s, respectively.
