440 CI, PISTOL-GRIP, FRESH RESTO IN CORRECT COLORS, R134 A/C, 3:23 POSI, NICE RT
If you had a wish list of all the features you'd want in your next muscle car, this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T would probably nail them all. Big block power? Loaded with options? Fresh restoration? Awesome colors? All of it is included with this fantastic Top Banana R/T. Have a look and prepared to be impressed.
You may as well get a high-impact color on your Mopar muscle, because that's one of their most defining features. This one wears a fresh coat of FY1 Top Banana Yellow, which is how it came from the factory. The entire car was disassembled for paint and refinished to an extremely high standard and was completed in 2012, so it's still quite fresh. Chrysler got the look exactly right with their A-body siblings and the Challenger ideally embodies the long hood/short deck profile that just screams high performance. Add in a performance hood with blackout stripe and the R/T side stripes that highlight the little kick-up behind the door, and you have one of the best-looking muscle cars of all time. There's a Go-Wing out back and twin chin spoilers to add to the racy look, and I'm afraid you're just not going to be able to keep a low profile with this car. The front and rear bumpers are new (the originals are available) and so is the tinted windshield, but all the other glass is original stuff in excellent shape. Proper emblems, including 440 badges, have been installed to intimidate the other guy at stop lights.
The black interior is also fully restored with rare factory 6-way manual driver's seat, a feature I bet you've never seen before. The seat covers and carpets are new, but the door panels, console, headliner, and dash pad are original, so you know this has always been a super nice car. Simulated wood covers the console and instrument panel and looks quite convincing on the steering wheel, and there's simply nothing cooler than Chrysler's pistol-grip shifter. All the gauges are fully operational and you'll note that A/C has been very discreetly added using the original ventilation controls. There's a small switch to the left of the steering wheel that controls the electric cooling fan to ensure air flowing over the condenser at all times, so this bright yellow beast is happy to idle in traffic without getting cranky. The trunk is neatly finished with a reproduction mat and a full-sized spare with jack assembly.
Originally a 383 car, this awesome Challenger now sports a built 440 that's been tweaked to the tune of about 420 horsepower. With a mild cam inside to give it a slightly lopey idle, a big Holley 4-barrel, aluminum intake manifold, and an electronic ignition system, it cackles like a true muscle car should. Aside from the modern A/C components, it's pretty authentic-looking with finned valve covers to add a high-performance look. It's backed by a rebuilt 727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic and freshly restored 8.75-inch rear end with 3.23 gears on a Sure-Grip limited slip. Brakes, shocks, exhaust, springs, gas tank, bushings, and tie rods are all new, so this car rides and handles like new. Factory Rallye wheels with modern 14-inch radials complete the look.
When we dream of our ideal car, it's always a shock to find that it actually exists. This Challenger is one of those rare finds that hits all the right notes. Call today!
