Some Mustangs get all the breaks. Take this 1966 coupe for example. Not only does it carry a C-code 289, but it has every desirable option you could want for your next early pony: A/C, power brakes and steering, plus styled steel wheels. Finished with a bright red wrapper, this is a fantastic Mustang that you'll never outgrow.

For years the coupes lived in the shadows of their convertible and fastback siblings, but this Candyapple Red one proves that there's no such thing as an ugly Mustang. In fact, it's gorgeous! With only two owners, including the current one who has owned it since 1973, it's obviously been loved from day one and it shows. The restoration was extremely thorough, endowing this Mustang with fit and finish befitting a far more expensive car. Panel gaps are tight, everything lines up well, and it has a highly detailed look that can only come from someone paying attention to every little thing during the build. Great chrome, including the bumpers and quarter panel ornaments, fresh emblems, and bright rocker panel moldings add some jewelry, making this one attention-grabbing coupe!

Inside, this Mustang was restored by the book, which means black standard bucket seats instead ... Please ask for the full description.

Inside, this Mustang was restored by the book, which means black standard bucket seats instead of a quick and harmless Pony upgrade. It also got new carpets and freshened door panels to make it look great, and the dash pad isn't cracked or dried out from baking in the sun. The instruments are original and in good shape and the 59,599 miles shown on the odometer are authentic, so you know this pony's had a good life. Factory A/C lives under the dash and offers an R134a refrigerant upgrade, and the original AM radio was tossed in favor of a custom-fit Kenwood AM/FM/cassette head unit that powers Sony speakers and a CD changer in the trunk. All the knobs and handles are shiny chrome, likely a combination of original and reproduction pieces, but it all has a consistent look that makes the interior sparkle. And speaking of the trunk, it's finished with a reproduction mat that fits extremely well.

Although Mustangs can't technically be "numbers matching," that is this car's original 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood today. Originally a 2-barrel C-code unit, it has been upgraded to K-code specs during the rebuild, which was completed several years ago. Lots of Ford Blue paint makes the engine look right in the satin black engine bay, and experts will note things like the yellow-top coil, stamped coolant hoses, and factory air cleaner are all there for authenticity. It cackles and snarls like the Hi-Po motor it is, exhaling through a great-sounding dual exhaust system that's not too loud and features polished stainless tips. The original C4 3-speed automatic snaps through the gears so well you won't miss a manual gearbox, and a lowered suspension with Shelby-spec springs gives it a slightly more aggressive stance that's subtle enough to make you look twice. Shiny styled steel wheels with 205/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials fill the fenders and look right.

So if you've been dreaming about a great early Mustang but holding out for a convertible or 2+2, give this coupe another look. They just don't come much better than this. Call today!
