The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the original luxury SUV, something that was far more revolutionary 40 years ago than it is today. But for many, there's just nothing like a full-sized, body-on-frame 4x4 with legendary Jeep toughness, and this 1985 Jeep Grand Wagoneer delivers high style with the heart of a mountain goat.
This is a very original Grand Wagoneer, and if you've looked through the classified sections of some of the major car magazines, you'll see that top examples are pulling down some pretty significant prices. Now, we're not saying that this one matches any of those $50,000 machines, but it most definitely is more than 70% as nice for 30% of the price, and it's hard to argue with that. The very recently resprayed gray paint is a great look against the light-colored wood appliques and for being 30 years old, it's about what you'd expect: not perfect, but then again, they weren't perfect even when they were new. This was not a winter warrior or off-road toy, so the body panels are in great shape with only the usual signs of age and use that you get from being a well-maintained vehicle that gets regular exercise. There's plenty of chrome, too, because this is an old-school American ... Please ask for the full description.

There's plenty of chrome, too, because this is an old-school American station wagon (on stilts), and while the brightwork isn't showroom fresh, it does have an all-of-a-piece look to it. We also like the upright greenhouse and squared-off windows which have an old-school charm that you just can't get anymore.
Jeep did luxury pretty well, lining the interior of the Grand Wagoneer with stylish tan vinyl and cloth and adding every power accessory they could think of in 1985. That means power windows, locks, and seats, a tilt steering column, and A/C that still blows cold thanks to an R134a refrigerant upgrade. The wood on the dash is less convincing than the wood on the bodywork, but that's all part of the Jeep's charm, and the straightforward controls and big, round gauges are reassuringly familiar after all these years. Plush carpets and lots of sound-deadening materials mean it's hushed and comfortable inside, making these Jeeps fantastic road trip vehicles, and there's obviously room for everyone and their stuff. An upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo system was added and provides a welcome boost to the entertainment system and nobody will complain for the back seat where it looks almost new. The cargo bay is massive and beautifully styled with more plush carpets and bright stainless rub strips for an old-fashioned luxury look that's pure vintage woody wagon.
AMC's rugged 360 cubic inch V8 was the right powerplant for this juggernaut, providing effortless torque and reliability instead of all-out speed. Topped by a 2-barrel carburetor, it's also reasonable on gas for something this size and age. It's been properly maintained and not modified, so it runs quite well and given the legendary reliability, it should continue to do so for a long time to come if you take care of it. A 3-speed automatic transmission was the only choice and it's linked to Jeep's innovative and cutting-edge Quadra-Trac system, which was one of the first SUVs to offer full-time 4-wheel-drive, which might be the greatest luxury of all. The underside is obviously built for the trail with skid plates for the gas tank and plenty of ground clearance, but the 235/75/15 Michelin light truck radials and alloy wheels are smooth riding for the highway, too.
Just a nicely maintained old Jeep with lots of personality and charm without the massive sticker. How can you go wrong here? Call now!
