Ford fans, we know that you see a lot of Chevelles out there, but we hope this pretty 1968 Galaxie 500 convertible at least makes up for some of it. A handsome mid-sized ragtop, it offers V8 power, room for six in the nicely preserved interior, and remains a car that you won't see at every cruise night and car show.
The best cars are those with a known history, and this big Ford was purchased new in Pompano Beach, Florida and has remained with the same family ever since. It made the move to Georgia 30 years ago, about the same time it was given a quality repaint in the original code O Sea Foam Green. It was clearly a quality job, because it's holding up remarkably well so many years later, with only a few signs of use and a nice, soft shine. There's a chip on the hood that should probably be attended to, but the car comes with some touch-up paint, so that will be easy for the new owner to remedy. Having lived all its life in a warm climate, you know the bones underneath are good and the way the doors fit is reassuring in a big ragtop like this.

All the chrome and stainless trim is also original to the car, with some of it showing a few very minor signs of age, but overall having a very uniform look that's appealing.
The clear plastic seat covers may recall your grandparents' couch, but there's no arguing that they did their job, because the white interior is in fantastic condition. The upholstery is a handsome combination of cloth and vinyl, with tan carpets to give it some contrast. There's a bit of discoloration on the driver's door panel where it's been grabbed over the past five decades, but it's so nice you wouldn't even consider replacing it. The gauges are in good order and you'll be happy to note that this car sports fully functional factory A/C, complete with original-style R12 refrigerant inside, so it's effective. There's room for six thanks to wide, comfortable bench seats front and rear and nobody will complain about the lack of leg room because this is a big car in every sense of the word. The original AM radio is still in the dash and fully functional and we believe that's the original white power top sealing things up. The trunk is truly massive and includes a Ford-logo mat and a full-sized spare tire.
The 302 cubic inch V8 is the car's original engine and makes good torque so the Galaxie feels light on its feet. The engine bay is very nicely detailed, complete with bright Ford Blue on the engine and air cleaner, and the overall condition suggests that it's been expertly maintained over the years. The A/C compressor dominates the view, but underneath you'll find power steering and power brakes and a C4 3-speed automatic transmission, so this ragtop feels luxurious on the road. There are no major upgrades or notable modifications, and it still exhales through a single exhaust system that has a pleasant, soft burble. 3.10 gears out back make this a great choice for highway road trips and you'll see underneath that the car has lived a clean life. It even still wears stock steel wheels with hubcaps, although it's been fitted with more modern whitewall radials.
There's a lot to like in this big Ford ragtop and the affordable price makes it an awesome entry-level hobby car with a lot of character. Call today!
