Vintage Corvettes are still fast, affordable fun, and given the price tag on this 1977 example, there's just no need to spend another summer on the sidelines. Matching numbers, bright red paint, chrome wheels, and a very attractive interior make this car look like it should cost thousands more. Don't worry, we won't tell anyone how little you actually paid!
It's kind of a cliché at this point, but the truth is, Corvettes look fantastic in red. And despite its affordability factor, this car looks great from any angle. The color is just about right for 1977 and there's a nice gloss that's quite uniform, even in the sun. Obviously it's been repainted, but aside from a chip on the driver's side headlight door, it looks very fresh and eminently presentable. The panel fit is quite good, particularly for a late-70s 'Vette, and thanks to that repaint, the nose and tail pieces are the same color as the body, a feat the factory never quite mastered. Chrome bumpers were long gone by 1977, but the slash of stainless trim along the rocker panel only emphasizes the wild "Coke bottle" shape of the C3, and with new crossed-flag emblems and CORVETTE badging on the tail, it looks quite stock and ready to enjoy. The only major deviation from stock on the outside is a set of bullet-shaped taillight lenses that give it a subtly custom look, but OEM-style lenses are inexpensive and easy to install in minutes of you prefer to go that route.
The two-tone white and gray interior neatly dodges the dated disco look and provides a first-class driver's environment. The seat covers are recent and gleam against the contrasting gray console and carpets. A set of matching white door panels with woodgrained inserts wrap into the instrument panel, which is topped by a low-glare black dash pad. The original wheel is covered in a leather wrap that makes it feel more contemporary, while the original gauges are still in very good condition. Unlike many Corvettes of the period, this one is almost devoid of squeaks and rattles and feels tight going down the road, a very nice bonus at this price. It's also loaded with options, including factory A/C, power windows, a tilt and telescopic wheel, and an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo. New components include most of the weather-stripping, heavy-duty Corvette floor mats, and a fresh set of T-top covers.
Power comes from the original, numbers-matching L48 350 cubic inch V8, which in 1977 was rated at 180 horsepower. While that number doesn't seem all that amazing to us today, it is an over-achiever with a broad torque curve that makes it as quick as you'd expect with a look like this. There's more new equipment under the hood, including the A/C compressor and O-rings, alternator, valve cover gaskets, motor and transmission mounts, and a full tune-up so it's ready to rock. The dual exhaust system sounds great and the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission always seems to be in the right gear. It's quite clean underneath, indicative of a car that's been well-maintained all its life, and with new rear suspension bushings and an alignment, it tracks like a cruise missile. Flashy chrome Rally wheels are just right on a bright red Corvette and carry 225/70/15 blackwall radials.
This is a heck of a lot of car for not a lot of cash, and the quality is there. An almost perfect 'Vette, and one that you can jump in and have fun without a second thought. Call today!
