396 CID BIG BLOCK/ 325HP, TH400 TRANSMISSION, 10-BOLT REAR, VERY CLEAN AND NICE!

It took Chevy a few years to stuff a big block into the Chevelle/Malibu twins, but some enterprising fellow gave this 1964 Malibu some L35-spec power, which means 396 cubic inches and 325 horsepower. With the sizzling red paint, it's definitely not subtle, but at least it has the power to fend for itself on the mean streets and local drag strips.

Hard to beat the straightforward look of an early Malibu, and it's just the right size for having fun with a big V8. The 2007 GMC bright red paint is vivid enough to require sunglasses and with a color that attracts that much attention, you know they spent the time to get it straight when it was painted about four years ago. A fiberglass cowl induction hood is a subtle and factory-looking addition that makes it looks a lot more aggressive, but otherwise it's pretty much as the designers intended. Of course, the original trim remains in place, with that long streak of bright stainless along the sides breaking up all that red rather nicely. The bumpers shine up nicely and while some of the trim isn't perfect, the whole car has a very nice, complete look that shows well.

Black buckets anchor a very tidy and fairly stock-looking interior that has a ... Please ask for the full description.

Black buckets anchor a very tidy and fairly stock-looking interior that has a lot of new equipment inside. Obviously things like the seat covers, door panels, and carpets were replaced when the car was freshened and it has a great factory look that'll never go out of style. The factory instruments look great, but since they only cover the basics, a white-faced tach and under-dash auxiliary gauges were added when the big block went in. There's also a great-looking, simple 3-spoke steering wheel that fits the Malibu's personality perfectly and the no-nonsense vibe is very appealing. There's a stock AM radio in the dash, so obviously an entertainment system isn't necessary with a big block, and the shifter between the seats is a Hurst Pro-Matic 2 that ensures you're always in the right gear. The trunk is uncluttered with speakers or amplifiers or other weight-adding nonsense, but does include a correct reproduction mat so it looks right.

The L35-spec 396 cubic inch V8 fits so neatly in the engine bay you have to wonder why Chevy didn't try it sooner. It looks fairly stock, and aside from a few performance and reliability-enhancing upgrades, it runs and drives like the factory built it. Chevy Orange paint, a set of chrome big block valve covers, and a low-profile chrome air cleaner make it sparkle against the satin black engine bay, and obvious upgrades include the Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold, MSD ignition, and long-tube headers that feed a pair of small mufflers with turn-downs ahead of the rear axle. Nobody said this car was docile! The TH400 3-speed automatic transmission was made to live behind big blocks, and in such a lightweight car, the 10-bolt rear end should handle the abuse you will inevitably want to put a car of this caliber through. Satin black is the color of choice for the undercarriage, but you can see that things like the air shocks and pan-hard rod were added for purely performance reasons. Staggered Cragar wheels carry 215/65/15 front and 245/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials that totally fill the fenders.

Brutally fast and a ton of fun, this is one of those awesome "what if" cars that are so much fun to take to shows. Call today!
