There are certain cars that rarely last long in our showroom, and VW Beetles are certainly one of them. We don't expect this original, limited production, 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Champagne Edition II to be any different. This is a numbers matching, and again very limited edition, and smart buyers will be calling about this one quickly!
1978 Champagne Edition II Beetles were all convertibles, available for only one model year, and with only two color options; Ancona Blue Metallic and Peach Red Metallic. The Ancona Blue Metallic that graces the curvaceous body of this Beetle is a classy color. It shows some age, but it is believed to be the original paint that was sprayed at the factory. No matter which color was applied to the CE II, a sand colored top and boot was included. The top on this car fits snug and is wrinkle free. Along the sides of the car is a dealer installed, white horseshoe pinstripe that is a nice highlight, and represents the era and lines of the car well. All of that cool 70s era flash sits on a nice set of 8 spoke Empi wheels wrapped in white wall tires.

There are certain cars that rarely last long in our showroom, and VW Beetles are certainly one of them. All of that cool 70s era flash sits on a nice set of 8 spoke Empi wheels wrapped in white wall tires.
Inside is the exclusive Champagne Edition II white vinyl interior. It endures it's factory configuration and presents very well. The pleated front bucket seats are firm and look like they belong in a sports car rather than a VW Beetle. The rear bench seat features tight vinyl that is very clean. Also exclusive to the CE II is the burled elm wood inlayed dash. The dash in this car is glossy, crack free, and looks great with the wood/black contrast. It's a pretty simple design that doesn't host much more beyond a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, a quartz clock, a speedometer, and switches for the lights, and heater/defrost controls. The white door panels are tight with contrasting black cranks and handles. Overall this is a fun cabin to spend a sunny day in with 3 of your close friends.
Pop the rear hatch and you'll find the original, air-cooled 1.6 liter engine. Configured in a flat-4 cylinder design with twin ports, the 50 horsepower motor sends its power to a 4-speed manual transmission. The underpinnings on Beetles are pretty simple, but you can count that the original Super Beetle components are there that make this little convertible a fun driver! This 36 year old Beetle runs and has aged well!
When these cars were originally sold new, supposedly, each dealer only got two of these special edition convertibles. Sales sky rocketed and these Champagne Edition II cars were stored away by collectors. Coming across a deal like this doesn't happen often and can prove to be a wise investment in the future.
