This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera perfectly captures the purity and design of the early models which are some of the most entertaining cars to own. If you've ever wondered why the 911 is perhaps the world's most beloved sports car, one stint behind the wheel of this Porsche will give you all the answers you seek.
This beautiful gray Carrera is exactly the Porsche you want. Not abused, clean, well-maintained, but driven enough to keep it in peak mechanical condition. Porsches from this era are renowned for their build quality, and the structural integrity of this car will surprise you. The compact shape is instantly recognizable, and most purists appreciate the narrower body style when compared to the caricature wide-body Turbo. All of the original bodywork fits with typically German exactness and the doors shut with precision. The paint has a great shine and all the black pieces, including the bumpers, are in good condition with no signs of UV damage. The headlamps are wrapped in body-matched bezels, which give it a sporty look.
The Carrera was an expensive car, and while you can tell the burgundy interior's design stretches back to the original 1960s incarnation, the materials and equipment levels are appropriate for a high-end machine in the '80s. Leather buckets were standard, but these have been updated with buckets out of a 2002 Porsche Boxter. Driver's equipment also included power windows, A/C, and a pair of small temporary seats that should only be used for children or people you don't like. The ignition key remains to the left of the steering column, LeMans-style, that now mounts a steering wheel from a mid '70s model, and the ancient original radio has been replaced by a more modern Kenwood AM/FM/CD head unit. And yes, you'll get used to the floor-mounted pedals and massive center-mounted tach is all part of the 911's charm.
Most experts agree that you won't find a more reliable high-performance powerplant than the 3.2 liter Carrera flat-six in this car. In 1984, it received a self-tensioning timing chain which eliminated many of the issues that had plagued the 911 almost since birth, and is the single most important reason to purchase a Carrera over an earlier SC model. Given timely care and frequent oil changes (and we have stack of maintenance receipts to go along with it), they should run well for 150,000 miles or more, and you'll be grinning like an escaped convict during every mile. Powerful disc brakes with red calipers keep the car under control, and Porsche's legendary steering feedback allows you to feel every pebble without harshness, a remarkable achievement. Handsome staggered 16-inch alloys wear 205/55/16 front and 225/50/16 rear Bridgestone Potenza radials.
With superb build quality and legendary performance, this is the ultimate affordable Porsche. This is literally a timeless design that Porsche still uses as the foundation for their halo vehicle. Don't miss this chance to own a well-maintained, classic German sports car. Call today!
