When Dodge's Performance Vehicle Operations set out to create the world's fastest production pickup truck, it probably didn't take them long to figure out what powerplant and what truck body to use. The Ram 1500 was already a capable platform for utilitarian duties, but with speed in mind, Viper and Prowler engineers stuffed a Viper V10 under the hood, did some suspension and aerodynamic tuning, and the result was the stunning Dodge Ram SRT-10 like the 2004 model you see here.
Number 1,579 of 3,057 SRT-10s produced for the 2004 model year, this vivid sport truck has seen just 18,086 miles and it shows in the immaculate body. Sure, the Viper V10 under the hood is what makes this truck super cool, but it's also very easy to admire the sporty styling. Looking at this truck it's no secret that it is a force to be reckoned with. The Ram emblems that Dodge fans are used to seeing on their favorite workhorse have now been replaced with sinister Viper emblems. You certainly won't be hiding any discrete intentions with the 'Viper Powered' badge located on the functional hood scoop.
And even if that badge got past any would-be stop light competitors, the front chin spoiler, massive Viper-inspired 22'' wheels, and rear spoiler would be a dead giveaway that this isn't your ordinary lumber hauler. The black trim appears to have never seen sunlight and the paint is devoid of any concerning flaws, it's hard to imagine this truck is now 10 years old.
PVO designers didn't want you forgetting what you were operating when behind the wheel of this truck. The foundation is obviously Dodge Ram, but little details remind you that you are in something special. While sitting in the sporty, leather wrapped bucket seats with suede inserts, you're within easy reach of the short throw manual shifter that's topped by a Viper shift knob. Viper floor mats dress the bottom of this cabin while a 'Viper Powered' and 'SRT-10' branded trim panel engages the passenger. The driver of this hot rod hauler is greeted by silver-faced SRT gauges and an oil temp gauge that rests in an A-pillar gauge pod, while the red 'Engine Start' button is where all of the excitement begins. Providing some luxury to the sport are factory options such as power seats, air conditioning, cruise control, and an aftermarket Kenwood touch screen head unit that has a hosts of features including a CD player, Bluetooth, navigation and XM satellite capability, iPod hookups, and many more features and it is even still operable through the factory steering wheel controls.
By now it's evident what lies beneath that menacing hood, a massive 8.4L V10 that originally produced 500 horsepower and 525 lb/ft of torque! That's enough juice to get this pickup blasting down the 1/4 mile in just over 13 seconds and to a top speed of over 150 mph! Further increasing the massive power is aftermarket headers and a Billy Boat exhaust system that absolutely screams. Obviously a stout transmission is needed to handle that tire melting power, so a proven Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission handles shifting duties and sends power to the Dana 60 with a 4.56 final drive. You can't just put a sports car drivetrain in a pickup and expect it to behave like a sports car, so extensive research and development went into the tuning of the brakes and suspension to make this truck surprisingly nimble. It was lowered up front and in the rear and upfitted with high performance suspension, and massive power anti-lock discs brakes at all four corners help stop the large 305/40/22 Nitto tires. You can also depend on power steering to assist in aggressive track driving or easy city commuting.
This Ram SRT-10 is a package that we may not see again in our lifetime. Trucks like this are produced in small quantities for short durations, making them a hot commodity and poised to be a real future collectible. In the meantime, you'll certainly have a blast every time you take this pickup out to the store, strip, or track. Call today!
