Jeep Central has come up with another good one that's ready to play in the dirt. Heck, the copper paint is definitely back in fashion on this 1985 CJ7 Renegade, and it's been upgraded with the hardware that you'll actually find useful out in the mud.

We know these Jeeps well because we sell a lot of them. But the secret is that we turn away a lot more because most of them are beat up, bent, rusty, and just plain tired, so when you see one in our showroom, you know it's living up to its promise of fun in the sun. The copper paint on this one is in great condition, and isn't very old if the shine is any indication. Underneath that shine, there's good bodywork that shows none of the usual Jeep issues above the rear fender wells or on the tailgate. Correct 'RENEGADE' decals were applied to both sides of the hood, there are shiny metal rocker panels, and the front bumper has been upgraded with a pair of 3-inch Hella off-road lights and a big Warn winch. There's also a heavy-duty spare tire rack out back to handle a full-sized spare, and the rubber fender moldings do a pretty good job of keeping the mud under the Jeep instead of inside it.

Fresh upholstery really makes a difference in the basic Jeep interior. New seat covers have a durable vinyl material that just hoses right off after a day of fun, and a spray-on bedliner material on the floors is durable, weather-resistant, and grippy, so no worries there either. You'll feel at home pretty quickly in a Jeep, regardless of what else you've been driving, because the controls are right where you expect. The tilt steering column certainly helps, and the shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission falls to hand easily. Original gauges are big, bright, and easy to read and the secondary controls are logically arranged along the left edge of the central instrument panel, the heater controls are also in place. A newer AM/FM/CD stereo gives you decent entertainment on the path, and there's a locking console between the seats for a bit of security. This Jeep includes a tan canvas soft top and doors as weather protection, and you'll be surprised how well it can seal up for inclement weather.

The 4.2 liter inline-six was a mainstay throughout CJ7 production, and for Jeep fans, it's one of the most popular choices. Reliable as an anvil, torquey, and relatively indifferent to poor quality gasoline, they get you wherever you want to go. Jeep engineers knew a thing or two about off-roading, so they put the air cleaner up high along with most of the critical wiring, and that remains true today. The engine itself is pretty stock, but thanks to smart gearing it feels quick and peppy around town, and works quite well off-road when you use the low range in the 2-speed transfer case. It's got a 3-inch lift kit that adds ground clearance and suspension articulation, and power steering and brakes are probably mandatory on a vehicle like this. Shiny chrome wheels add a great look and are wrapped with huge 33x12.50-15 Goodyear Wrangler off-road radials that look fantastic.

Clean, well-sorted, and very capable, this CJ7 is an above-average example of our favorite 4x4. Call today!
