1969 is one of the meanest-looking years for the Chevelle, so with such an original appearance, it's only fitting that this coupe has a street-eating big block under the hood. Add in the right modern conveniences, and this is an irresistible SS.
The exterior is straight, clean, and faithful to the Chevelle line, right down to the optional SS package accent striping. This is not the original paint on the car, but instead it has been updated with the 1969-correct Olympic Gold finish. It means this Chevelle has a much deeper color than its contemporaries that have been around for over 45 years. Also, the gold perfectly coordinates with the optional black vinyl top. The chrome on these cars is a bit more understated. It highlights the rear wheel arches and helps separate the colors of the car and roof nicely. The black paint on the grille helps bring out the brightwork around the headlights and bar going across the grille. A similar silver/black setup for the rally wheels makes them menacingly eye-catching. Combine all of this downplayed flashiness with the slight front overhang added for this year, and the 1969 Chevelle SS is again, one of the fiercest-looking Chevys of all ... There's an ideal sweet spot when you're looking for a muscle car with real drivability. This is where original appearance is supplemented by modern conveniences to make everything easier and more reliable. Check out the pictures of this Chevelle, and included with the original gauge cluster, you'll see valuable additions like a new tachometer. This easy to read setup is necessary to get the most out of the upgraded four-speed manual transmission. There are also new oil pressure, battery, and temperature gages to keep you informed about everything on this muscle car. For those who need control over the tunes, the stereo has been upgraded to a digital AM/FM tuner that fits the original knob-style mountings. Beyond these modern upgrades, the rest of the interior feels 1960s original right down to the optional black vinyl bucket seats. Space for the whole family is not always a first thought in a vintage performance coupe, but it might help sway other decision-makers in your household when you mention that this one seats five comfortably.
If all the description up until this point has started to indicate that this Chevelle has been cared for and restored to keep it at its best, then the motor will seal the deal. The 396 cubic inch V8 was rebuilt less than 7,000 miles ago. The big block has been dressed up with chrome valve covers, air cleaner, and other bits, but there is also a much more functional side, too. It now runs on a modern MSD electronic ignition, and everything exits through a Flomaster exhaust for maximum performance under a mean sound. Getting the power to the wheels is the sturdy GM 12-bolt rear end running a 3.73 ratio for a good balance between acceleration and highway cruising. There's more evidence that this muscle car has some everyday drivability. It has power steering, power brakes (with discs up front), and an upgraded multi-link coilover rear suspension.
This coupe is the best of everything Chevelle – big block, great paint, mean look, complete gauges, and a Super Sport package. The only thing that's left is for someone to step up, and enjoy it as their own. Call today!
