Here's a rare Buick with a story to tell. You already know there was no GS 455 models made in 1968, which means someone spent a ton of cash to create one...and boy did this beauty turn out amazing! So now you can get a great deal on a muscle car that's better than anything that came from the factory.
From the outside you can tell you're looking at something special. 1968 was arguably the best year for these Buicks. They had the sweeping sides, and pointed beak front ends that finally allowed these Skylarks to be real birds of prey. This one has the right amount of chrome in all the right places. The brightwork on the bumper and grille surround highlight the angular front; in back the bumper helps give this coupe a wing-swept look; and the chrome on the fender grilles as well as induction hood scoop help highlight the aggressive nature of the GS Stage 1 packaging. All of this combined gives the right amount of 1960s feel without distracting from the bodywork. This one's particularly special because beyond the expensive deep red paint and black vinyl roof, you'll start to see the advantages of its full rotisserie restoration. All of this combined gives the right amount of 1960s feel without distracting from the bodywork. This one's particularly special because beyond the expensive deep red paint and black vinyl roof, you'll start to see the advantages of its full rotisserie restoration. Start pouring though the pictures, and you'll notice some major upgrades. One such upgrade is the frame, which has been sealed and coated in Silver Vein.
The idea behind a Buick GS is to mix muscle with Buick's reputation for luxury, and that was not forgotten on the interior. Step inside, and there is comfortable seating for six on the pristine black vinyl seats. The stereo has the cool original knob-style appearance, but in reality it's an AM/FM/CD unit connected to a modern stereo system, so everyone can blast their favorite tunes. But this one is really set up for the driver with items like a three-spoke Buick Rallye steering wheel and auxiliary SunPro gauges for the oil, water, and temperature. One of the great things about a coupe like this is that you can roll down all the windows for that cool pillarless hardtop look. It can be done year-round because it not only has a heater/defrost, but more importantly, there's also ice-cold blowing air conditioning. You'll especially want to keep the windows open all the time because you're going to get addicted to the roar of the exhaust note.
This wouldn't be a true 455 Stage 1 clone without the correct monster motor. In fact, this one is bored over .030, so it's actually a 462 cubic-inch V8. The specially built engine was given a huge basket of performance goodies that includes a hotter camshaft, electronic ignition, Rochester carburetor, and performance headers. The long list of upgrades is too much to list here, but the figures on this powerplant are estimated to be an astronomical 400 hp and beefy 550 lb-ft of torque. You'll have no problem getting all this power to the ground thanks to GM's stout TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, and a solid 12-bold Positraction rear end borrowed from a Chevelle running 3.08 gears. Everyone will have plenty of time to hear this beast-of-a-Buick coming thanks to a new 2.5-inch Flowmaster dual exhaust with performance X-pipe configuration. During the restoration, there were extra steps to make this Buick a better all-around coupe. It was already a power steering car, but then they added four-wheel Checkered Racing power disc brakes. This combined with the 18-inch Coys wheels running low profile performance tires makes for one exceptional handling, street-eating muscle car.
There's a lot of care that went into building this Buick – it even comes with its original warranty card. We call this GS 455 Stage 1 a clone, but you already know it's so much more. Call now!!
