This 1960 AMC Metropolitan coupe is possibly the nicest, best equipped, and easiest to drive Met you will ever see. It takes the classic car looks, and upgrades everything underneath so that this little British/American coupe is really a genuine little sports car.
You might not notice anything is much different from your first look at the exterior. You still get that that iconic Metropolitan appearance that packed American design flair into a European size. This little car has plenty of great chrome throughout the grille, and running down the sides of the body, to separate the two-tone shiny black and red paintwork. There's even a cool small continental kit on the rear. But, then you start to see a few aggressive touches. It's in the details like the traditionally bright bumpers are now a sleek black, and why would a little Met need dual exhaust tips?
The moment you step inside the upgrades become much more obvious. Sure, this one continues the exterior color scheme like other Metropolitans with its black dash, red vinyl seat, and door panels that combine both colors, but there's something much more premium about this one. Description
After all, you don't see features like power windows, an AM/FM/CD stereo, or ice-cold air conditioning in other versions of this car. And the upgrades are not just about adding luxury. The Grant sports steering wheel and B&M shifter tell you there's probably something more going on in the engine bay too.
When you lift the hood on any other Met, you see a tiny British four-cylinder motor, but this one can no longer hide its surprise. The 2.5-liter filling the engine bay is borrowed from a Chevy S10 pickup. Not only does this give you 67% more displacement than the original motor, but it also makes parts much easier to source. But, what you'll really like is the more authoritative exhaust note and performance that comes out of this little guy. The whole package is more than just a better motor. This also gets a GM 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission, with overdrive, and a Ford rear end to better cope with the added power. There's even a new coilover front suspension with disc brakes, and the frame has been beefed up to handle the new additions. So if you're looking at this and thinking it's the best Metropolitan to utilize the backroads, we'd have to agree.
It's an interesting classic on the outside, and an upgraded American machine beneath. Best of all, this attention-grabbing custom Metropolitan is at an unbelievably affordable price, which means it's already gathering interest quickly. Call today!!!
