If the C5 transformed the Corvette, the C6 perfected it. When this 2005 Corvette hit the market, it was an evolution, but every single component was designed to be better, faster, stronger, and arguably, more attractive. Fully loaded, this coupe sports a few mild upgrades and the ever-popular Torch Red paint, proving once again that the only Corvette you want to own is a red one.
There's no denying that this is a Corvette. The swoopy styling is unabashedly proud of its American DNA, and even though the folding headlights disappeared, the curves and quad taillights leave no questions. Like most Corvettes, this one was never a daily driver and has instead been treated to a good life as a hobby vehicle. As a result, the factory paint is in excellent condition with only minor signs of use which are to be expected from a car that sits this low and goes this fast. Finish quality at the Bowling Green plant was impressive, and thanks to the ministrations of a caring owner, it's still shiny and bright.
A few dress-up items like the chrome "gill" inserts add a bit of old-school charm to the modern C6, while the billet grille up front makes everything look smoother. Tinted windows add a bit of sinister attitude and help keep the black leather interior nice and cool, too.
Admittedly, the C5's interior was a tough act to follow, so the C6 focused on enhancing the driving experience. The control layout should be familiar to late-model Corvette fans, and the body-hugging black leather bucket seats remain comfortable for long-distance tours. The center console and a few other interior pieces were color-matched to the bodywork and the addition of some color in the otherwise monochromatic interior is very welcome. The 4-spoke steering wheel feels great in your hands and when you key it up, the dials sweep across their faces in a spot check to assure you everything is working properly. Of course, A/C, power windows, keyless entry and pushbutton ignition are all included with this top-of-the-line 'Vette and the entertainment system was recently upgraded to an Alpine AM/FM/CD/USB setup with separate amplifier in back. A set of Corvette-logo floor mats protects the original carpets, and like the C5 before it, there's a massive trunk that can also swallow the removable roof panel for open-air motoring at the drop of a hat.
The big news for the C6 was horsepower. Thanks to a slight displacement bump, the base LS2 was now nearly as powerful as the previous year's top-of-the-line Z06. It still looked pretty much the same, sitting low in the chassis and hiding under black plastic coil covers with bright red lettering, but performance was notably improved. Adding a few horsepower, this one features a Hurricane cold air intake and a performance cat-back exhaust system for a bit of an aural upgrade, but for the most part it's the same bulletproof powertrain that means you can enjoy this Corvette for years to come. The 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission is no longer considered a liability in the Corvette, snapping through the gears with authority and making this car the ultimate point-and-shoot machine. Wheels were upgraded to chrome and show off the vented rotors and color-matched brake calipers behind them and carry 245/40/18 front and 285/35/19 rear performance radials.
You will simply not be able to get this much performance for so little money with any other car. Call today!
