NICELY FINISHED 40 FORD, STEEL BODY, 350CI, GLIDER BENCH SEAT, A/C, GREAT DRIVER

Is it old-fashioned to appreciate an unchopped hot rod? This beautiful 1940 Ford coupe packs a powerful 350 cubic inch V8, comfortable yet traditional interior, and a unique look that will make it stand out anywhere it goes. If you appreciate driving your cars, then this great rod will definitely appeal to you.

The 1940 Ford is incredibly popular with restorers and rodders alike, thanks to its combination of timeless good looks and practical, big car comfort. There are no radical modifications on the body, no chopped roof, no shaved handles, and all the original Ford trim remains in place, albeit restored to new condition. This one was clearly built to drive, but like all hand-built cars, the attention to detail and level of quality is beyond what you'd get from some mass-produced transportation appliance. The custom-mixed medium blue paint is a refreshing change from red or black, and it has enough metallic in it to really glisten in the sun. Chrome and stainless trim has been fully restored rather than painted or removed altogether, and even the rubber-covered running boards survived the conversion intact. In truth, the only notable change is that very slick 1-piece curved windshield, ... Please ask for the full description.

In truth, the only notable change is that very slick 1-piece curved windshield, but it looks so right that most folks won't even realize that it's not stock.

Inside, there's an inviting cloth interior that pays more than a passing tribute to the original design. Again, it's the ideal mixture of old and new, invisibly blending the two into something very unique that clearly took a lot of time and effort to achieve. The original front seat was replaced with a Glider seat with tilting seat backs, and it's covered by attractive blue fabric. The rear seat was removed (or perhaps was never there if this was a business coupe), but the rear area is as nicely upholstered as the front and hosts a pair of speakers that fill the coupe with sound. The most visible upgrade is a tilt steering column topped by a banjo-style wheel, and it frames a special gauge insert full of nice-looking Dolphin instruments. Modern conveniences like air conditioning, heat, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo, have all been cleverly installed throughout the interior. The trunk is nicely finished, and unlike most rods, this one carries a full-sized spare tire, more proof that it was built to drive.

Under the pointed hood you'll find a built Chevy 350 topped by an Edelbrock carb and intake and set up to be easy to maintain and very user-friendly on the road. Go easy on the throttle and it's happy to cruise cross country without drama, but open all four barrels, and it will likely pull this rounded cruiser deep into triple digits. A big pusher fan cools the big radiator and maintains airflow over the A/C condenser, making it very effective. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission drives a 9-inch Ford rear end. Up front, there's a Mustang II-style suspension with disc brakes and a fat sway bar, while out back, simple leaf springs locate the rear end. Polished Cragar alloy wheels offer the look of a vintage Halibrand and with a traditional big-n-little tire combination (185/65/15 front and 215/75/15 rear) this Ford has an awesome stance.

There's a lot to like in this beautiful 1940 Ford. It's extremely well engineered and few cars of the period are more attractive. For a car you can drive cross-country and still show with pride, you'd be hard-pressed to find one that's better. Call now!
