Everyone knows the nastiest car on the streets in the mid-80s was the Buick Grand National. Cars like this 1987 GN had the right look and the right engine to make anyone this side of a Corvette look in their mirrors nervously. And while a great many of these cars were modified for combat, this one remains refreshingly original and authentic, save for a set of very handsome aftermarket wheels.

Some guys call it patina, some call it history, but whatever it is, it works on this Buick. That's original factory black paint that has been washed and waxed regularly since it was new almost 30 years ago, but never refinished. As a result, it isn't perfect, but it does have an honesty to it and you know there are no surprises hiding underneath. Panel fit is the way the factory did it, and in black, these really are some great-looking machines. Good gaps, a decent shine with authentic 1980s GM orange peel in the finish, and even bumpers that haven't been abraded and bumped, all contribute to a car that looks good but isn't so perfect you're afraid to drive it. There's not much chrome on a Grand National, but details like the grille, special badges, and deck lid spoiler made sure that it stood out ... Please ask for the full description.

There's not much chrome on a Grand National, but details like the grille, special badges, and deck lid spoiler made sure that it stood out from its peers in a very big way.

Given the age and mileage, the interior is simply astounding! Two-tone buckets were a GN feature and they remain in outstanding condition, even on the driver's side. Black carpets and gray door panels continue the contrast and give the formal Regal interior the right combination of luxury and sport. The three-spoke steering wheel is suitably racy and a center console with a trick Hurst shifter shifter only enhances that vibe. The gauges are original and include a tiny boost gauge just under the speedometer, but AutoTechnic gauges for boost pressure, temperature, and oil pressure were installed on the A-pillar to monitor the engine's vitals. There's also a newer JVC AM/FM/CD stereo to replace the aging Delco cassette deck, so you know this car has been loved throughout its life, which is sometimes the way you want your next car to be. Other features like power windows and locks, a tilt wheel, and a power driver's seat make the Buick feel upscale. The trunk is spacious, with a lot of the room absorbed by a giant subwoofer enclosure, but the blown V6 doesn't even notice the extra weight, so go ahead and enjoy your bass.

Buick's 3.8 liter turbocharged V6 really needs no introduction. Grossly under-rated by the factory and still quite fast, it changed the performance scene for an entire generation. This one hasn't been modified or abused, and both the turbocharger and the 200-4R 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission were recently rebuilt. There's also a newer alternator, a fresh throttle body, a new fuel pump, and plenty of evidence of expert care over the years, because this is one clean engine bay. Underneath it's original, but coming from warm Alabama and spending the last decade in Texas means there are no rust-belt-style issues. There's a high-flow catalytic converter to keep it legal and a pair of Flowmasters for just the right sound, although it's unlike anything you've heard before. 17-inch Torque Thrust wheels are kind of a cool contrast to the '80s shape and carry low-profile 245/45/17 performance radials.

Most GNs are either highly modified track stars or low-mileage trailer queens, so this cool driver-grade car makes a nice compromise for the guy who wants to enjoy his Buick without a care. Call today!
