If you grew up in the '80s, the IROC was the machine to own for prowling the streets looking for a race. Today, finding one in solid, original condition that hasn't been pounded into the ground is virtually impossible. Fortunately, this 1985 IROC is such a car. Clean, well-maintained, and with an upgraded powertrain, it delivers on all the promises that the bright bodywork makes and will help you relive the days when gas was $1.00 and horsepower was cheap.

Yes, a lot of these cars got repaints, but the finish on this car duplicates the original (and relatively rare) Yellow Gold, and all the graphics, including the stripes and IROC-Z lettering on, have been reproduced. As a result, it looks fresh off the showroom floor, shaving years off its age. In fact, having seen what these cars looked like new, it might even be safe to say that it looks better than factory fresh. There's none of the factory orange peel, blotchy metallic, and cloudy clearcoats that characterized GM's paint in the '80s. The two-stage urethane is shiny and uniform, the clear is, well, clear, and it's obvious that someone took a lot of time and effort to get the details just right. It won't be easy finding a nicer early IROC than this.

Inside, the car sports very cool mid-80s seats that are not only kind of kitschy, but in excellent condition, making it one of the cleanest 3rd generation Camaros we've seen in a long time. The light tan fabric is comfortable and perfect for cruising with the T-tops off, and the light-colored carpets help keep it cool inside. Original door panels remain in good condition, and the trunk area has also received a facelift. Noteworthy upgrades include a freshly rebuilt 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission, and a powerful Kenwood AM/FM/CD/iPod head unit integrated into the original dash and powers a set of subwoofers in the cargo bay. IROCs also came loaded, and this one includes power seats, windows, and locks, A/C, and a full complement of gauges, including the goofy 85 MPH speedometer designed to keep Camaro owners from speeding. Yeah, right.

1985 IROCs had a choice of engines, but none were as potent as the 350 cubic inch crate motor with Tuned-Port Injection that was installed about 1500 miles ago. Electronic fuel injection was in its infancy in 1985, but today it delivers impressive torque, and as history has shown it's reliable and tunable. It starts with a throaty rumble from the dual exhaust system, and idles like it has a bit of a cam inside, although the camshaft was designed to make the engine as user-friendly as possible. It pulls hard, makes great V8 noises, and the 4-speed automatic is a great companion, just stomp and steer. Out back there's a 2.73 cog in the rear end, making this an extremely capable high-speed cruiser that pulls down decent fuel economy, especially for a modern muscle car. A big bore Flowmaster exhaust system helps add to the horsepower count of the new engine and the undercarriage shows that the past 30 years have been pretty easy. The IROC's handling is especially impressive for the era, and it currently wears cool 20-inch chrome wheels that emulate the original IROC alloys, as well as a set of expensive 245/35/20 Pirelli P-Zero performance radials.

It won't be long before these cars become collectable in their own right, and with tasteful upgrades and a lot more power, this one delivers the performance you always imagined when you were a teenager. Call today!
