The rebirth of the Camaro has done some pretty marvelous things for the horsepower wars, and cars like this 2011 Camaro convertible were the beginning of it all. With just two owners and 16,332 original miles, this loaded SS brings back all those great memories of the early cars with a healthy dose of modern tech and horsepower.

The late-model Camaro looks particularly good in white and since most of these cars were snapped up as collectors' items right from the beginning, second-hand cars like this offer nearly-new performance and looks at a fraction of the price of a new one. The white paint with black accents on the cowl-induction hood are pure nostalgia and it's not hard to see echoes of the 1969 Camaro in every angle and shape on the car. Finish quality is worlds better than the first-generation cars, with doors that close with a reassuring thunk and chassis solidity that even the hardtops back in the '60s could only dream of. Obviously this one has led an easy life, as there are hardly any marks on the body and the shiny paint has clearly been washed and waxed on a regular basis. As a loaded 2SS package car, it includes cool details like the halo headlights, SS decal on the hood scoop, and a discreet wing on the rear deck. This is one good-looking car!

Chevy definitely dipped into the retro look when they put the late-model Camaro together, but that's a very good thing inside. Combining modern comfort and convenience with an old-school look is more successful here than in, say, a similar Mustang and for all the right reasons. The seats are ultra-comfortable and very supportive leather buckets that remain in excellent condition overall. The three-spoke steering wheel feels fat and grippy in your hands and offers an unobstructed view of the deeply recessed gauges that are a modern take on the round dials in an early car. Auxiliary gauges are down low on the console where they belong, just ahead of the shifter for the 6-speed automatic transmission. However, modern touches include the very futuristic HVAC and audio controls, and just about everything was standard, including A/C, power windows, seats, and locks, cruise control, and a tilt wheel, so driving a Camaro is definitely no sacrifice. The black canvas convertible top opens and closes itself with the touch of a button and lives under a flush-fitting boot when it's folded. Heck, this Camaro even has a useful trunk that looks like it's never carried anything more substantial than a grocery bag.

The SS is powered by a version of the Corvette's 6.2 liter aluminum V8 and it delivers thrilling performance. Snapping off upshifts and downshifts using the paddle controls is a blast and these engines have a well-established reputation for both performance and reliability. It looks totally different here with that big engine cover, and a strut tower brace is a functional piece of under-hood sculpture. An AirRaid cold air intake seems to be the lone modification, which probably boosts performance in a modest way. The automatic transmission always seems to find the right gear, and with a fully independent suspension, this is the first Camaro that could rightfully be called a sports car. Brakes are, of course, massive discs all around and the giant 20-inch alloy wheels carry 245/45/20 front and 275/40/20 rear Pirelli P-Zero tires.

Fast and fun, these Camaros are a thrilling homage to the originals with a distinctive personality all their own. Call today!
