Take one look at the body. This Mercury has all the great traits of the legendary hot rods like the frenched in headlights, custom taillights, and shaved door handles. But there's something much more that you can tell the moment this one arrives. There's barely a hint of chrome on the body because the pearlescent silver paint shines as vivid as brightwork in the sunlight. The lack of bumpers and integrated rear fender skirts gives this two-door a sleek profile like a silver bullet. In fact the only time the streamlined appearance is broken up are in the cool wave-style hood scoops that are an indication that this one is just as much about "go" as it is for "show"...But more on that in a moment.

Open the door, and you'll realize nothing is left from the 1950s in this complete custom interior. While it all looks spectacular, there's also some real practicality here, too. The tan leather seats have modern bolstering for long-haul comfort; stylized floor mats can hide dirty shoeprints; and everyone gets a cup holder. Plus, there's a lot of comfort built in with the AM/FM/CD changer stereo, power windows, power locks, remote door openers, and an overhead console that controls the ice cold air conditioning running modern R-134a. But of course the driver gets the most treats. Beyond the cool leather and chrome steering wheel is a custom digital dashboard that reports the full gauge package from behind a single blue-faced panel.

The highly stylized custom build continues under the hood. A fuel-injected 350 cubic-inch V8 borrowed from a Corvette lives in the engine bay. Everyone gets a great look at it during the car shows thanks to intrusive wires hidden behind custom panels and all the added chrome twinkles in the sunlight. And even when the hood is closed you'll be grabbing attention the moment they hear the dual exhaust with glasspacks. This Mercury was built to impress, but what's really great is that it also has the functionality so you can comfortably drive it wherever you want. It has power steering, front disc brakes, and there are even comfortable cruising tires mounted on those cool-looking Eagle alloy wheels.
