Here's the ultimate new classic. This 1996 Mazda Miata MX-5 M Edition is a low-mileage, low-production special edition presented in an exceptionally preserved form. It all means that you sharp-handling drop-top is also a sharp-looking collectable.
Mazda made a limited run of M Edition MX-5s. They were only available for a few years, and each year was distinct. For example, Starlight Blue Mica is exclusive to only the 1996 M Edition cars, and arguably, it's the best color of the bunch. It's a dark hue with a metallic element that loves to radiate in the sunshine. It's believed there were less than 3,000 of these produced, and so a quarter-century later, it's especially nice to find original paint that still looks this good. It's part of a well-respected appearance that comes on a car that has averaged under 1,700 miles annually. That's quite good considering these first-gen Miatas were often altered because they are so much fun on the racetracks.
But the M Edition cars were expensive, and this one retains that uppers class style with its positively European flair. You see it everywhere from the sophisticated color combo with the tan roof, to the Elbrus alloys wheels that look like they were borrowed from an Aston Martin.
The interior has the same deep tan as the folding roof, and so you'll love taking the top down. The M Edition cars came loaded, including a cool Nardi shift knob. And not only do the supple leather seats have M Edition logos stitched in the back, but also these also have the special headrest speakers. There are more great features, like the factory AM/FM/CD/cassette stereo, power windows, power locks, power steering, cup holders, ABS, dual airbags, cruise control, and ice-cold air conditioning. And of course, these MX-5s are the best a delivering that European roadster kind of experience where the interior is wrapped around the driver. The shifter falls where you want your right hand to be, and you get a grippy sports steering wheel. Beyond that is a full gauge pack with clear markings and even the special M Edition logo on the tach.
Even if you buy this one as a collector car to show off, it will be difficult to resist adding a few more miles to the odometer. The first-generation Miata was all about the purity of the driving experience. The 1.8-liter DOHC fuel-injected motor was precision engineered to rev freely and sound great doing it. And the five-speed manual transmission puts you in the center of the action. It's everything you love about the classic European driving experience, but this time with exceptional reliability. The sport-tuned independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes are part of a harmonious package that makes the car feel like an extension of you as it instantly reacts to the road.
It will be a tough decision whether to really drive this roadster or keep its mileage so amazing low. But don't take too long deciding, because you may never find a Miata this desirable ever again. Call today!!!
