This 1975 Pontiac Trans Am is kind of a big deal. It offers a Matt Bishop-built 455, 100% matching-numbers, and a recent frame-off restoration to show standards. You can add up the receipts for a build like this and you'll undoubtedly get a figure somewhere north of TWICE the asking price here, making this fully pedigreed T/A one heck of a bargain.
With three owners, this car has ownership history from day one, and spent almost all its life in warm, sunny Memphis, TN. With that kind of background, you know the results of the no-holds-barred restoration will be impressive, and this car doesn't disappoint. The original Sterling Silver paint was refinished to show standards by body expert Darryl Wilson and every single detail on the car was finessed into place to make it even better than new. If you want one of the nicest T/A's money can buy, this just might be your next car. The finish is extremely nice, with a shine and depth that no car in 1975 could have possibly matched, and at this point in the Trans Am's history, the look was all business, so there's no chicken on the hood, just some subtle Trans Am decals. The look of the early second-generation Firebird evolved and 1975 was a pinnacle year, offering the great single-headlight look that remains popular with F-body fans today. Out back there's a ducktail spoiler and the urethane bumpers fore and aft fit well and look great thanks to well-integrated design work that kept them close to the body. And, of course, it goes without saying that all the badges, lenses, and glass are in exceptional shape.
The black bucket seat interior is one of GM's better performance car designs of the 1970s, with tall bucket seats that are just as comfortable as they look. Like the rest of the car, the interior is pretty much all new, from the seat covers to the door panels to the carpets, and it all reproduces the original equipment. This car is like a time capsule inside, and truly an impressive place to spend some time. The leather-wrapped 3-spoke wheel is crisp and fresh and frames the original gauges which include a full array of instruments plus a tachometer, all surrounded by a bright engine-turned applique. This heavily-optioned car includes A/C, power windows and locks, a tilt wheel, and an AM/FM stereo radio that comes from Retro Autosound but looks almost OEM. And yes, Trans Am fans, there are three pedals on the floor and a Super T-10 4-speed transmission shifter in the center console. Even the trunk is restored for show, carrying a reproduction mat and all the weather-stripping is new.
The original, matching-numbers 455 cubic inch V8 was rebuilt by the legendary engine specialist Matt Bishop and as you'd expect, it runs superbly. It's properly detailed and filled with date-code-correct components like the 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold, and that big scoop on top sure looks cool poking through the hood and has been fitted with correct snorkels and fresh seals. Underneath, the chassis looks like it might have a few days after rolling off the transporter in 1975, correct right down to the red oxide floor pans. Talk about clean! Flowmaster mufflers have been integrated into the exhaust system to give it a somewhat more potent soundtrack, but you'll find that the steering, suspension, and brakes are all stock and correctly finished. Easy-cruising 3.23 gears in the 10-bolt rear end mean that this Trans Am is easy to drive anywhere, and the gorgeous factory "honeycomb" wheels were fully restored before new 225/70/15 BFGs were installed.
As one of only 857 built in 1975, this Trans Am is a fantastic addition to any hardcore Pontiac fan's collection. With only 1000 miles on the restoration, it's still very fresh and ready to compete at just about any level. Call today!
