These final-gen El Caminos never got a chance at big block power, so the 454ci V8 in this 1983 Chevrolet El Camino SS already makes it worth the value price alone. So it will just feel like a bonus when you discover the investments in the sleek paint, well-done interior, and overall impressive style.
We already know a big block beast is lurking within, but the first impression is more about a good-looking classic. The two-tone light and dark Briar Brown has the right 1980s attitude. The metallic element and smooth style really help to highlight the later professional respray. So it has a vintage style but a modern radiance. It's the kind of shine that complements the chrome bumpers, added side rails, and bed trim that draws extra attention to the cool flying buttress style of the C-pillar. And everything from the color-match soft tonneau to the full-length pinstripe gives this a detail-oriented look. So aside from polished Torq Thrust wheels, Goodyear Eagle NASCAR tires, and wide dual exhaust tips, this just has a nice classic sleeper style.

The brown interior continues the vintage color theme, and it proves to be both sporty and useful. The split bench seats three, and the folding armrest means individual comfort when it's just you enjoying this classic. Plus, there's even space remaining behind the seat to store some items out of sight. The dash will look familiar to anyone who's driven a fourth-gen Malibu, so it has a car-like comfort. There are also great features like power windows, power locks, an alarm, a tilt steering column, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, and provisions for factory air conditioning (it will need servicing to blow cold again.) The walnut-like paneling even adds a touch of class to the dash. And details like the upgrade temp readout and sporty three-spoke steering wheel are a few subtle things that you'll especially like what's in the engine bay.
It's awesome to lift the hood and see an upgrade that even Chevy didn't have the guts to do at the factory. The 454 cubic-inch V8 fills the engine bay with big block muscle, just like the best 1960s and 1970s El Camino Super Sports had. This is a crate motor that we're told was added in the late 1990s, and the under 5k odometer is said to be the mileage since installation. It's a professional-level installation that also has nice features like a Holley four-barrel carburetor and a Mallory coil. It's a strong runner that's an overall solid driver thanks to the three-speed automatic transmission power steering, power brakes, front discs, and rear sway bar.
