The reliability of a Beetle mixed with the flair of an Italian design. This 1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is the kind of coupe that has always been appealing. And as they mature into valued classics, finding a quality and affordable one like this is a fleeting proposition. And as you check out everything from the upgraded wheels to the fresh/stylish motor upgrade, you'll see that they made the right investments to deliver a terrific cruiser.
There is a simple formula for a great classic European car - if you want style, go to the Italians; and if you want quality, buy German. But only a few companies were smart enough to do that, and the budget-friendly VW was one of them. The legendary design house Ghia seemed like they wanted to elevate Volkswagen's status as they mixed rounder corners with very muscular edges. The precision builders at Karmann were able to take this dream and make it into metal. It is truly rolling art. We're told this is a desirable California/Texas car, and it has the clean look that goes beyond good geography and suggests quality care.
It's well detailed everywhere from the classic rocker trim to the upgraded BRM 15-inch wheels. But the overall finish of the cream paint and the full details tell you this is a classic that's made to be driven. After all, a classic VW is all about being weekend cruising.
The stylish feeling continues inside. The red is clean and complete, including newer door panels and newer carpeting. And the tone of the red has a truly European look against the exterior cream that returns on the door tops and dash. You'll even love all the vintage touches, like the fold-down rear seat, pop-out rear window, and tasteful flower vase (a German car tradition.) And it has a proper driver's car feel with comfortable front bucket seats, a leather wrap around the classic steering wheel, and clean VDO readouts.
When you check out the engine bay in the back, the 1600 cc air-cooled flat-four should be instantly recognizable to VW fans. And this is the more desirable dual port motor. The glowing blue style tells you there have been fresh investments here, and in fact, the motor was installed just in 2020! It's not just the motor that's new. Other details like the fuel tank and floor pan were more recently updated, too. It makes for a solid running car with the right confidence for the road. You also have newer front suspension components (shocks and the sway bar,) upgraded front disc brakes, newer tires, and control of a four-speed manual transmission. It all makes for the right kind of attractive classic that's also driver-ready.
The sale comes complete with nice extras, like the tool kit, some maintenance records, the owner's manual, a Karmann-Ghia hat, and a die-cast model car. The Karmann Ghia was born out of the idea of looking like a million bucks but getting to pay far less. That tradition is upheld today with this coupe. Call today!!!
