Sharply restored inside and out, this rare 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Convertible really knows how to attract attention. And this extra-sleek drop-top even has an ultra-hot small block under the hood to create a great cruiser that's going to be an award contender the moment you arrive at a car show.
This was an awesome year for the Chevelle. Coke bottle curves and crisply creased fender ends came together to create an icon. Description
And with something this stylish, it looks particularly nice in premium Malibu form. But what really sets this one apart is the awesome look that comes from all the right investments. The trim tag tells us this was born a Matador Red car. But the finish you see today is a high-quality respray that looks sleek and bright on this sunshine-friendly convertible. There are bright chrome bumpers, bezels, and upgraded crystal clear headlights. And there's also a distinct trim line that extends from the grille down to the rockers, and then flows to the rear for an added touch of style. So it has a very period-correct premium vibe you want in an upper-level Malibu. Plus, the blackout grille and REV 20-inch wheels give you the right hint of sporty style that makes an American V8 cruiser so cool.
The well-fitting black convertible top has a stylish look against the radiant red paint. So you'll be glad to take it down to reveal a well-done black interior. The restoration investment means this one is beautifully detailed with a time capsule-like everywhere from the button-top seatbacks to the intricate door panel trim. This makes for the kind of classic that others will beg to go for a ride. And you can really tell this one is meant to be a comfortable cruiser. The radio is now a Bluetooth unit with an upgraded speaker system for the best in modern driving music. Plus, the driver has bucket seats, a center console, an upgraded temp readout, and a terrific Chevy steering wheel.
Under the hood is a classic Chevy small block. This has a fresh and clean look, and that's because it's a fresher 350 cubic-inch crate motor. Not only is this larger than any small block available in 1968, but it also has been further upgraded with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an Assault intake, and Patriot headers feeding the dual exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers. It's a strong-runner, and the aluminum radiator helps keep the full package running cool. Add in power steering, a Powerglide automatic transmission, and grippy ZR-rated tires, and this Malibu is fun for ice cream runs and a lot more.
There is serious rarity here. Only about two percent of the total 1968 Chevelle production was ever a drop-top. And this restored example comes with some well deserved awards that prove we're not the only ones impressed with this drop-top classic. Call today!!!
