This 1941 Ford Super Deluxe woody wagon is a tastefully done custom shaped by a true craftsman. And with sleek paint, glossy wood, a loaded A/C interior, and upgraded V8 power, it's the kind of cruiser that's going to get some serious attention everywhere it roams.
The story on this car is unique. It was first restored by a man who made it his passion project for 20 years. He owned a furniture shop, and so he was a true craftsman who took the premium maple wood and really understood the proper fit. Unfortunately, he passed away before being able to complete this surf wagon, which is why there are less than 100 miles on this custom. It's not quite a tragic story, because it was built out of an enthusiast's passion, and the family had a professional shop complete the restomod style build. So the idea is that another true enthusiast can carry on its legacy and get its proper public admiration. After all, when a build is this award-worthy, it deserves to be shared with the world. The '41 Ford design is already quite unique considering it was the debut of a new three-piece grille and production was shortened as we were gearing up for WWII.
But while the shape is vintage, there are plenty of cool modern touches that were well integrated. For example, maroon paint would have been on a classic woody, but this has the kind of smooth gloss and metallic glow that only comes from a modern quality application. There's a tasteful sleekness where some badging was removed and the fender-top signals were shaved, but you still get all the right vintage trim looking straight and clean. The lowered suspension and larger rear tires also give a sporty stance to the classic two-piece wheel trim. And where you can really see the craftsman's touch is in the windshield. Inches were chopped out and so the wood doors had to be reshaped. It's done so well here that people often have to look twice before realizing the top is following a custom line.
The interior is an awesome mix of specialist woodworking and true modern luxury. You see that best in the doors where you have beautifully crafted maple in the top half, and below it is plush newer upholstery with comfortable armrests. The tan seats, maroon carpeting, and beautiful full wood ceiling are all part of a thoughtful and cohesive design. The rear hatch is a split tailgate so you can have your surfboard sticking out the back as you cruise to the beach. And even if your plans aren't coastal, this was set up to be an awesome cruiser. You have upgrades like cold-blowing air conditioning, tinted glass, power windows, and a retro-style AM/FM stereo with aux input and Bluetooth. And the driver's seat shows you all the right upgrades you really want, like a tilt column and a comprehensive Omega Kustoms readout package set into the smooth wood paneling.
The engine bay has a tidy and polished style that makes it great to show off the 350 cubic-inch V8 upgrade. The small block inhales deeper with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with added power and authority as shorty headers feed into a glasspack-style dual exhaust. A true cruiser style also means nice upgrades everywhere from the Mustang II-style independent front suspension to a Champion aluminum radiator with electric fan. Plus, rack & pinion power steering, power brakes, and front discs are all about making an easier overall driving experience.
