This 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 is the first year ever for this model. So there's no better way to represent how this car merges sporty and premium than with a loaded example that was optioned with the big 390ci V8. It's even coming off of long-term care.
This car has been under the same care of one family for nearly 45 years. It went from the father to both the brother and then his sister. It's the kind of legacy that you'll feel like it was treated like a member of the family. There's a good look to the body panels; the chrome bumpers hug the form; and the hallmark hidden headlight front end is distinctly sharp. So it knows how to hold up the elegance you want in an upper-level Mercury. The factory-correct Polar White was resprayed about 15 years ago. You even see it in the details, like the styled steel wheel, complete badging, and hallmark sequential tail lights.
The green interior is a true vintage kind of color that feels right on a car that really is all about being a respected classic. A premium Mercury means nice details like a center console, intricate upholstery stitching, and an overhead map light console. And we love the driver-oriented feel that comes from the front bucket seats, full gauges with a large speedo and tach, and even cool race-style toggle switches in the dash. It also has the potential for even more fun if you want to upgrade the stereo with a modern retro-style unit or service the factory air conditioning if you feel like staying extra-cool while showing off the pillarless hardtop profile.
This was born an ultra-desirable S-code coupe, and the correct displacement 390 cubic-inch V8 is still under the hood today. The mighty motor inhales deeply with the four-barrel carburetor, and the exhaust lets it exhale with a nice tune. It's a strong running package, and you'll even find good maintenance items - including a Griffin aluminum radiator to help keep it running cool. It's a nice driver setup where the C6 three-speed transmission is a stout unit that also gives you easy automatic cruising. That complements great anytime driving features like the power steering, power brakes, front discs, and a newer (2022)) set of BF Goodrich T/A tires.
