This 1988 Mazda RX-7 Convertible is a long-term family-owned car (father and daughter) that has an exceptionally well-kept presentation. So the bright red exterior, luxurious black leather interior, and rotary power are truly irresistible. And when you can have everything you desire, including a stick shift and a value price, you know you're looking at a heck of a deal.
This was the first year you could get a convertible in the second-generation rotary-powered sports car, and the mix of stylishness and engineering is making it get a lot more attention now that it has matured into full classic status. So it's great to find an example that has been with the same family for decades and has averaged under 2500 miles annually. The Sunrise Red paint shows all signs of being the original application. It has some signs of age and use that come over the years, but the radiant style still knows how to excite every time you take this convertible out for a sunny Sunday drive. And part of the impressiveness is also in the overall level of care. Description
The headlights rest flush against the body; the crisp black folding roof coordinates with the rub strip; and the 15-inch factory BBS wheels look like they have never done a parking lot battle. The result is a car that is ready for antique plates in many states, but its appearance looks far younger.
One of the best engineering tricks Mazda did was create a well-insulated top that has a more rigid structure than other sports cars. You can even remove the center section and have a targa-like style. And if you think that reminds you of a Porsche, so will the crisp gauges with the tach prominently at the center. The leather seats show some wear and the headrest speakers are no longer working. So that may be what you'd like to restore, but those superfluous items. It remains quite a luxurious car from day one with a long list of desirable factory features like power windows, power locks, power mirrors, a tilt steering column, and a factory premium AM/FM/CD/cassette stereo. Plus, the air conditioning helps keep you cool while looking cool in this classic drop-top.
The RX-7's real calling card was the revolutionary two-rotor Wankel engine. The exceptional condition of the motor tells you this was just as well-respected as the rest of the car. The dual-rotor Wankel engine can fit behind the front axle for ideal mid-engine placement. It may be smaller than the V6 and V8 engines you'd expect under the hood of a sports car, but this revolutionary motor makes just as much power. And there's something magical about the high-revving smoothness that's just perfect for those who love the grand tour. And you get to experience all of the powerband thanks to the full control of the five-speed manual transmission. But just because this is so well preserved, it would be a shame not to take it out on the road. After all, the fully independent suspension, low-mounted motor, and four-wheel disc brake package combine to offer the ideal mixture of performance and comfort
The sale comes complete with the original window sticker, the owner's manual packet, and maintenance records. This preserved classic is a blast to drive down your favorite twisting piece of pavement, with the wind in your hair and the sun overhead. So at this price, this interesting total package classic won't be with us long. Call today!!!
