This 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback not only represents the first-year pony car, but it's also the body style that gave the Mustang its proper power car attitude. And this example really takes that legacy to heart. There's a performance-built 393 cubic-inch V8 under the hood and the enhanced control of a six-speed manual transmission. Plus, the sleek racing stripe paint package, awesomely upgraded interior, and suspension enhancements all come together to deliver the feeling of a true power pony.
Crisp lines, great detailing, and sporty sheet metal make this one timeless. The Patriot Blue is a close cousin to 1965's Caspian Blue, and it delivers a first impression that's both sleek and sophisticated. That's exactly what you want on an upgraded machine like this. The paint is great for highlighting the fastback's long hood/short deck design. When they invested in the fit and finish, they also made sure that the brightwork had an extra shine to go with the glossy body. Plus, these always had the best profiles with the race-ready rear window slats. The full white stripe package on the rockers and running over the top add to this competitive attitude.
We even love the details like the sporty GT-style fog lights in the grille, and the Scott Drake wheels give a modern shine to the classic Mag 500 design. And the huge power dome of the cowl hood also tells everyone that this is far more than just a sharply restored fastback.
The interior continues the exterior's blue and white color theme, and so it's quite striking from the moment you open the door. There are some nice vintage elements, including the fold-down rear seat, but what will really impress you are all the well-integrated upgrades. For example, the front bucket seats are high-back units borrowed from a much younger generation Mustang, but they have been recovered to blend in here nicely. And beneath the new carpeting is proper Dynamat insulation. The stereo has a retro knob-style look, but it's a modern AM/FM digital tuner featuring Bluetooth and a USB input. This has an awesome driver's setup with a bright Pro 5.0 shifter, wood-rimmed Lecarra sports steering wheel, polished tilt column, and a full AutoMeter Phantom gauge package with large speedo and tach.
When you pop the hood, the tidy setup and fortified components instantly signal upgraded power. This is a 351 cubic-inch V8 stroked to 393ci total that was professionally built and balanced by Coat High Performance. More than just monster displacement, this has the right go-fast goodies like Edelbrock Victor Jr. aluminum heads, Comp Cams 270 hydraulic camshaft, Cloyes True Roller dual timing chain, Magnum roller rocker arms, ATI harmonic balancer, Edelbrock Performer RPM air gap intake, and topped with a Holley 750 CFM four-barrel carburetor. It even has the right supporting components, like a Holley fuel pump, MSD ignition, and a Griffin four-core aluminum radiator w/electric fan. You have full control over this big power motor better than anyone else did in '65 thanks to the upgrade to a T56 six-speed manual transmission. This has been reinforced with a McLeod aluminum flywheel, twin disc clutch, and pressure plate. This feeds a custom DSS driveshaft on its way to the Quick Performance 9-inch rear end. The undercarriage photos show plenty more investment in proper performance upgrades, including a Global West Mustang II-style front end, rack & pinion steering, front disc brakes, boxed subframe connectors, and rear traction bars. So yes, this coupe knows how to handle its power.
Complete with build receipts, this is a rare and speedy first-year fastback that has the enhanced V8 to back up its enhanced appearance. A package like this will always be in short supply and high demand, so you better hurry if you want to make it yours. Call today!!!
