Description
The year 1983 was a big one for the Ford Mustang GT. In many ways, it was considered a banner year for Ford's pony car. The third generation of the Mustang GT signified the slow climb out of a rut for American carmakers. Due to 10 years of oil shortages in the U.S. at the time, engineers were pressured into building more efficient cars. However, the Mustang's performance was back on its road to glory. With improved suspension and a better grip, thanks to the wider tire, handling for the Mustang GT was significantly enhanced in 1983. At the time, a 5.0L V8 engine provided the car with 175 horsepower, the most seen in a Mustang since 1973.
Ford made several cosmetic changes in 1983 as well. The nose of the car is smoother and sharper, giving it a more sporty look. It was also the first time Ford was offering the GT with a convertible option in 10 years.
