Description
The Chevrolet Corvette is one of the first vehicles that comes to mind when considering an American Muscle car. The Corvette has existed since the 1950s and became popularized in the 1960s as the "astronaut's car." Fast forward 40 years, and Chevrolet unveiled the C5 on January 6, 1997, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The C5 was initially meant to debut in 1993 to celebrate the Corvette's 40th anniversary. Due to financial struggles and other problems, the release was delayed three years. However, many Corvette lovers believe it was worth the wait. Chevrolet's C5 Corvette was produced from 1997 through 2005 with many accomplishments along the way, including winning the 24 Hours of Daytona and 24 Hours of Lams in the GTS and GT1 categories.
This particular example of the C5 Corvette is the Z51 edition, offering increased handling performance with larger anti-roll bars, among other suspension and cosmetic enhancements. This Corvette is powered by a 5.7L LS1 V8, producing 345 horsepower and 350 lbs.-ft. of torque. An LS1 power unit mated to a 6-speed manual transmission means this Corvette can hit 60 mph in under 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 175 mph. While this Corvette rolled off the assembly line two decades ago, it still provides a modern driving experience with:
