This 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450SL is a triple-black Benz with cool custom details inside and out - including added rear seats. And even with all this added appeal, we all know the real reason why you want this is there's a fundamental love for the way a drop-top Mercedes cruises down the road.
The black paint has a glossy style that's quite attractive. It lets the light dance across the well-fitting Mercedes steel with a premium appeal. It's not a finish you want for a car show, but it is the right one when you're looking for a cruiser. This one loves to get out there and look distinct. You can see it in how the style is darker than most other SLs. They deleted the side trim, blacked out some badging, and painted details like the door handles and side mirrors. It gives this car a touch of attitude, and at the same time, it makes the remaining brightwork elements pop. So the upgraded polished wheels, excellent chrome bumpers, and classic tri-star badges have more gravity on this dark Benz.

The black paint, roof, and interior give you an awesome triple-black appearance. In fact, with the black removable hardtop, you could almost call this a quadruple-black car! It's a clean and luxurious setup with lovely details like power windows, a smooth dash, and leather upholstery. We also like the distinctive addition of the rear back seat (a feature the USA never got from Mercedes.) And the radio looks like a classic Becker unit, but it's a modern AM/FM digital tuner with Bluetooth. You may want to restore some details, like the air conditioning or cruise control, but nothing takes away from the feeling of a proper driver's car. You have a well-contoured seat, crisp VDO readouts, and a terrific upgraded Nardi wood-rimmed sports steering wheel.
The 450 SL's namesake 4.5-liter engine was the main top powerplant for most US-bound Mercedes-Benz models of this era, and that's for a good reason. It's a hardy and powerful fuel-injected V8. Parts are still easy to find and relatively inexpensive, so having this serviced is far easier than other 1970s European classics. The automatic transmission, power steering, and four-wheel power disc brakes make for a solid cruising attitude.
Complete with the owner's manual. This is a distinct all-black drop-top Benz. It's the car that looks great on the street and gets noticed upon arrival. So it's a great way to cruise a classic. Call now!
