Description
While there are many reasons to love and enjoy a good restomod car, there is just something about having a car that is true-to-form from the factory. This Daisy Yellow 1973 AMC Javelin AMX represents so many things to muscle car history that it needs no extra help standing out. The Javelin AMX proved that sometimes an underdog upstart can upset the perceived natural order of things.
Powered by an AMC 304 cubic-inch V-8 topped with a single two-barrel carb, this AMX makes a post-SAE net 150 horsepower and 245 pound-feet of torque. That power is then routed through a Torque Command three-speed automatic transmission and onto the stock fifteen-inch wheels shod in Goodyear Polyglass F60-15 rubber. Both the engine and transmission are believed to be original to the car.
Riding on its original coil spring, shock, and sway bar front suspension with leaf springs and shocks at the rear, this rolling time capsule has retained its original four-wheel power drum brakes. Even more impressive is that Javelin AMX shows 55,230 miles on its odometer, which the owner believes to be actual, despite having just celebrated its fiftieth birthday.
Step inside the AMX's interior, and you're instantly transported back to a time of peace, love, and platform shoes. The patriotic red, white, and blue 'AMX' badge that adorns the door panels gives way to the curved cockpit-style driver's seat. With its intricate multi-gauge layout, the three-spoke steering wheel sits just forward of the Rally Pac dash. At the same time, the original American Motors push-button AM/FM radio waits to channel in your chosen set of airwaves through its four speakers. The black vinyl seats, both front and back, look almost flawless despite its half-century age. Even the factory R-12 air-conditioning works.
