Description
With the resurrection of the Ford Bronco in 2021, it is no wonder that we are beginning to see a resurgence of popularity in older generations of Ford's venerable off-roader. This 1979 Ford Bronco 4X4 represents a great example of the short-lived (read limited) second-generation Bronco that lasted just for the 1978 and 1979 model years. The second generation marked the first time the Bronco was made with a lift-off hardtop from behind the B-pillars. In conjunction with that removable white top, this truck, in particular, is repainted with a combination of Maroon Metallic and Candy Apple Red paint. Riding high on big 33-inch tires, this truck also uses power brakes and power steering to offer up a relatively comfortable ride (for the late 1970s). Custom plush red bucket seats and a matching bench in the back make that ride even better.
Under the hood, we find a Ford 351 cubic-inch V-8 engine topped with a single two-barrel carburetor. From the factory, that engine pumped out a less-than-stellar 158 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, but then the Bronco was not made to be a Mustang. Though this engine does seem to have a slight miss, nothing nearly half a century old is ever completely perfect. But this truck does provide a confidence-inspiring ride, high and powerful as anything on the road. That power is sent through a tried-and-true four-speed manual transmission, making this a bit rarer of a find, as most were outfitted with an automatic transmission.
