Lemonwood Yellow is one of those defining colors for the Super Sport Chevys. Vivid yet innocent, it made these high horsepower cars feel unassuming, but they left an impression as they showed everyone their taillights. This one is particularly striking because it has been treated to a restoration where panels are so excellent that you'll wonder if that factory really ever did make them this straight. It wears its aggressive nature well with SS 396 badges on the front and rear, racing flags on the front fenders, and "Super Sport" boldly written on the rear in chrome to match the bumpers. 1966 was the year that a Chevelle Super Sport really started to live up to its name. No longer just an appearance package, SS meant you were getting the big 396 cubic-inch V8. This big block has the correct casting numbers to be period-correct for this new revolution in Chevelles, but one look under the hood, and you know this one is far from stock. It was rebuilt with performance upgrades such as an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, Offenhauser intake, roller lifters, and a Comp cam. It also shows particularly nice thanks to the brightwork on places like the alternator, valve covers, air cleaner, carb, and pulleys. But for those who don't get to see this upgraded motor, they will undoubtedly hear it thanks to the large dual exhaust. But take a closer look at this coupe, and you'll understand why it's more than just an outstanding muscle car. With an upgraded 700R4 four-speed overdrive transmission and new bushings, this one feels exceptionally solid on the highway. It also has front disc brakes and BF Goodrich tires to make sure grip is always well in hand.
