Few will argue that the 1967 Pontiac GTO is not a gorgeous car. Even among GTO fans, the '67 stands out as a high-water mark in the classic car game. This incredibly powerful, frame-off restored 455 V8/4-speed hardtop is a fine example of one America's best muscle cars, offering big power, beautiful Coke-bottle styling adorned in Pearl White paint, a sporty bucket-seat interior, choice options, and wonderful provenance. The famed GOAT earns a top spot on most enthusiasts' short list of cars to own before they die, maybe this California cruiser could be your chance to finally fulfill that dream.
Originally Code L, Mariner Turquoise Metallic, this handsome TIGERRRRR got a brand-new Pearl White suit when it was restored off-the-frame back in 2003. Painting arguably the most famous muscle car of all time a bright color like this tends to attract attention, which was exactly the point, and the good news is that it more than lives up to scrutiny. The finish is incredibly smooth to the touch, uniform throughout, and features a largely unblemished basecoat/clearcoat application that shows nary an imperfection to speak of, short on one tiny chip we found on the hood.
It's obvious the bodywork underneath was either already in excellent original shape or was completely refurbished to a high standard, because it's held up incredibly well to this day. We'll call it a top driver-quality muscle car just to keep it safe (after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder), but rest assured, they don't get much better than this, especially at this price point. With a high-profile color, you need to get the details right and in that regard this car definitely delivers; from the laser-straight quarter panels, to the symmetrical panel gaps, to the restored trim and badges, this car is all about getting the little stuff right. Up front the stacked headlights and split grille are Pontiac trademarks, with wire mesh inserts that recall European sports cars that inspired the GTO. A scoop and tachometer enrich the hood as both practical and aesthetic upgrades, while out back, a re-chromed bumper and slotted taillights leave no question about the car's identity, even though Pontiac kept the GTO badges subtle. A light blue pinstripe was expertly applied around the car to add just a touch of contrast to all that gorgeous white paint, and the Hurst emblem and exhaust pipes out back let everyone know this GOAT can throw down with anyone, anytime.
The blue interior is an excellent choice that contrasts the white exterior and matches its bespoke pinstripes, and the beautifully restored cabin gives the car a purposeful look that's the epitome of Pontiac's blend of style and performance. According to the cowl tag, this is an original bucket seat/console car (albeit it was originally black), and when the car was restored it received fresh, period-perfect vinyl seat covers, door panels, plush carpets, and a taut headliner above that are all still in great condition today. The dash pad is blemish-free as well, while the steel portion of it was painted Pearl White and decorated with a couple matching pinstripes that match the exterior. There's also warm-looking woodgrain applique around the dash bezel, and on the center console, and it matches the wood-rimmed steering wheel that sets the tone inside. Options include a Hurst shifter that manages the 4-speed gearbox below, a tilt steering column, in-dash tachometer, seatbelts, and a retro-sound AM/FM/AUX radio that handles the car's entertainment. GTO floormats protect the carpets, the rear seat looks largely untouched, and even the trunk is super-clean, with a correct mat and full-sized spare in tow.
Under the hood, this GTO's been upgraded with a built 455 V8 – pulled from a 1971 Pontiac and bored .030 over, fitted with KTS forged pistons and SpeedPro rings, and a healthy Comp camshaft, lifters, and rocker arms that all equal to HUGE power up and down the throttle. Performance goodies include a Holley QuickFuel 4-barrel carburetor, a polished Edelbrock high-rise aluminum intake, Doug's full-length headers, and a giant aluminum radiator up front that keeps the whole show nice and cool. The engine bay itself is beautifully detailed, with polished valve covers, a chrome air cleaner, steel-braided lines, polished billet pulleys, and even a chrome alternator, all shiny elements that really pop out from the glossy black firewall and inner fenders. The great-sounding engine feeds a nearly bulletproof 4-speed manual transmission and 10-bolt rear differential with 3.50 posi-traction gears inside. Underneath, the floors are in excellent shape thanks to an easy life mostly spent in sunny California, and the suspension keeps the car stuck to the road thanks to double wishbones, heavy-duty coil springs, and a big swaybar up front, along with a 4-link and upgraded shocks in the rear. The cackling H-pipe Flowmaster dual exhaust has just the right attitude for the '60s' most famous muscle car, and the rolling stock rides on flashy Cragar S/S rim wrapped in 235/60/15 Cooper Cobra white-letter radials with plenty of grip.
There are plenty of GTOs out there, but not many capture this one's clean look, potent powerplant, and outstanding pedigree, all documented with the proper PHS docs, brochures, and a big binder full of build receipts and maintenance records. Call today!
