Description
In terms of muscle car lore and legend, few cars can match the might of this 1966 Pontiac GTO. Being the first year that the GTO broke away from the Tempest and became its very own model makes this car even more collectible than most. Resprayed in a brilliant silver finish, the aggressive lines of this Golden Age Pontiac can be noticed from any angle. Inside, a sea of black vinyl dominates the interior but is broken up by a wood-trimmed dashboard, three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, and Sunpro gauge cluster mounted beneath the original Pontiac AM/FM radio.
Under the hood sits a 389 cubic-inch V-8 that the owner states has been bored and stroked out to a massive 447 cubic inches and modified with a Comp Cam, Eagle Rods, Ross Pistons, ceramic-coated long tube headers, and a bit of chrome to spruce up the engine bay. Power from that big motor gets sent through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission onto a ten-bolt rear that sports an Auburn Traction Lock differential using 3.55 gearing.
This 1966 Pontiac GTO has a Pypes stainless steel exhaust finished with sweet-sounding FlowMaster mufflers. If that rumble isn't enough, there is also a toggle switch under the left side of the dash to actuate this car's dual electric cut-outs, which changes this big block's rumble to an NHRA-level roar. If the sound of bored and stroked V-8 isn't enough to get you going, mash the go-pedal and listen to the BF Goodrich tires that wrap their American Racing rims try and claw for traction whenever the urge arises.
